National Museum of History of Azerbaijan (Azeri. Milli Azərbaycan Tarixi Muzeyi) founded in 1920. Located in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku. Since July 1920 the museum functions in the mansion of known oilman and philanthropist G. Tagiyev. This architectural building was designed by the chief architect of the city of Baku at the time of Joseph Goslavsky in 1895 – 1896 years., And in May 1921, the museum welcomed its first visitors.
From 2004 – 2007. by the Decree of the President of Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliyev museum building has been fully restored, restoration work was carried out jointly with the Italian restorers. According to archival sketches was restored the original appearance of the residential complex. After the restoration in 2008 in the same building was open house – museum Haji Zeynalabdin Tagiyev. Opening of the Museum – House G. Tagiyeva reflects the life and activities of an illustrious son of the Azerbaijani people, its invaluable services to the Fatherland. By decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan Republic from November 2005 the museum, located in the institutions of the National Academy of Sciences has received the status of the National Museum.
Characteristics of the museum:
Science museum exposition consists of monuments of material and spiritual culture, genuine documents of political history and socio – economic life of the country. Also reflects the history of Azerbaijan from ancient times to the present day. Funds of the museum has more than 300 thousand various types of exhibits. In the museum there are 11 funds: Fund Archaeology (FA), a fund of numismatics (FN), Ethnography (PE) fund arms and flags (ELF), a fund of documentary sources (FCI), the fund gifts and memorabilia (FPPV) Fund Fine materials (FIM), a fund of materials auxiliary historical disciplines (FMVID) fund numismatics (FN), the fund negatives (FN), a special fund (SF), restoration laboratory. Also operates an extensive library that includes more than 80 thousand rare books, magazines, newspapers, which are created and published mainly in the beginning XIX – XX centuries. In addition to the permanent exhibition and the Museum – House G. Tagiyev, the museum has exhibition hall (in year are held 3 – 4 temporary exhibitions) conference – hall. Museum publishes travel guides, booklets, catalogs, monographs, and 1 time a year published a collection of scientific articles.
